Ledge and Brace Doors
A simplistic style of door used in old period cottages made out of a variety of hard and soft woods such as oak, mahogany and pine. There are 2 types of door that fall into this catergory; ledge doors and ledge and brace doors. Both styles consist of vertical boards of wood joined on the back by horiztonal boards, ledge doors just have horizontal boards, whereas ledge and brace doors have diagonal boards between the horizontal boards. These doors can be either painted or stripped, traditionally with black latches and t hinges.
